What is Power Yoga?

Power Yoga is a general term used in the West to describe a vigorous approach and physical fitness for Vinyasa style yoga. Although many consider it “Gym Yoga”, this practice style originally modeled closely in the Ashtanga method. The term entered into common use in the mid-1990s, in an attempt to make Ashtanga Yoga more accessible.

However, Western students, unlike Ashtanga, the Power Yoga does not follow an established series of poses, so classes can vary widely. With its emphasis on strength and flexibility, yoga power brought yoga in the gyms of America, as people began to see yoga as a way of exercising.

Yoga power classes are more commonly between 40 and 60 minutes. The most intense classes are 90 minutes, while retirement classes can last several hours.
